Who is responsible for the sewer line when you add a Quincy bathroom?
You are. In Quincy, the owner is responsible for the sewer line from the foundation to the edge of the sidewalk. A basement or attic bath adds new flow to that pipe, so a camera look first is smart. We are Walbridge Construction, veteran-owned and based in Hull, and we offer bathroom remodeling to Quincy homeowners.
The city cleans a home sewer line once each fiscal year at no charge, for buildings with 4 units or fewer. An unauthorized connection to the city sewer carries a $5,000 charge on the fee schedule effective July 1, 2026. So every new drain tie-in should be done the right way, with the right permit.
What does Quincy's water report say about lead?
Quincy buys its water from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA). The September 2025 lead test had a 90th percentile of 8.74 ppb, or parts per billion, under the 15 ppb action level. Just 1 in 10 tested homes came in above that. See the MWRA Quincy water report.
The city sent 748 residents letters about suspected lead service lines, the pipes from the street to the house. It replaced 169 lead services in two years and aims to remove the rest by 2034.
Does an older Quincy home change the bath plan?
It can. The Census counts 37.1% of Quincy homes, more than one in three, as built in 1939 or earlier. Old mortar tile beds and plaster may sit behind the walls of a house that old, so a good bid leaves room for them. Our bathroom remodeling page covers the full job.

Who does bathroom remodeling near me in Quincy?
Walbridge Construction, based a short drive away in Hull, offers bathroom remodeling to Quincy homeowners. Before a new bath goes in, we talk through the sewer line you are responsible for. We offer financing and a free written estimate. See our Quincy page for what else we offer in the city, or call (857) 326-7157.
Do I need a plumbing permit to move a toilet in Quincy?
Yes. Quincy's Plumbing and Gas Department permits and inspects changes to plumbing fixtures. A licensed plumber files the permit online through ViewPoint, the city's permit site. The department will also give layout advice before the permit is filed, which helps on a tight bath. Ask about timing when you request your free estimate.
What should a Quincy condo owner check before a bath remodel?
Start with the building's rules. About 40.5% of Quincy homes sit in buildings with 5 or more units. Baths in those buildings can share a drain stack with the units above and below. Ask your condo board what it needs before work starts, then plan the bath around the shared drain.
